adaptation by
Jane Kendall uses much of Jane Austen's text to present the story.
The director, Richard Hughes, added live music interludes
between scenes performed by
the cast. The play is set around 1800 in the drawing
room of Longbourn, Hertfordshire; the home of the Bennett family. The
irrepressible Mrs Bennett is eager to see her five daughters married
before her husband dies and his estate passes to the odious Mr Collins.
But the varying temperaments and feistiness of Elizabeth and
her
sisters means that the path to matrimony is far from smooth |
