Date: 16th May 2007-06-09
Location: Morecombe Room, The Roses Theatre
Present: Laura Giles, Oonagh Hughes, John Eliot, Kate Matthews, Hannah Moore, Joe Harper, Sarah Warrington.
Apologies: Geoff Matthews, Pam Jell, Richard Hughes, Jane Hughes, Martin Oakes, John Williams.
General:
The telephone tree proposed at the last meeting is still being completed and will be outlined for the next meeting.
Martin has looked into costings for hosting the website – he put forward two solutions (via email). A vote was taken and it was decided we would opt for a £40 - £50 option which would include everything from domain registration to emails etc.
A final decision will be hopefully be made at the next meeting when Richard # Hughes will be present to put forward his proposal in person.
“A Woman in Mind” was read by those who agreed to read it at the previous meeting. The general consensus was that it would be hard to cast the main characters and the technical elements of it would be difficult to carry out. Overall it was thought to be a good play although no one seemed keen to take on the role as director or producer.
Oonagh Hughes has been in contact with Roger and Paddy Grimshaw to discuss holding another event at The Barn. The Grimshaw’s are having a meeting with the Rotary Club on the 17th May ’07 and will discuss the feasibility of us holding an event at The Barn and sharing the profits.
Laura Giles brought in information of upcoming plays at The Globe Theatre. It was agreed more information will be sought on what the plays are about and then dates for a trip can be agreed at the next meeting.
Martin Oakes had looked in to the feasibility of performing at the Tuckwell Theatre and had submitted an email for information. The Open Air Festival at the Tuckwell is held in the last two weeks in July and they will not start looking at the 2008 programme until after this years has finished. If we are looking to put a play on here we have to remember the deadline for putting forward a proposal. Martin highlighted that most of the groups are professionals although slots for amateur groups do become available.
John Williams submitted a very brief treasurer’s report which showed better finances than expected! John will hopefully discuss the report in more detail at the next meeting.
Ideas for the showcase were discussed:
Sarah Warrington is keen to sing and has a number of songs in mind she would like to perform.
Kate Matthews would like to do a Joyce Grenfell monologue.
John Elliot has a book of short sketches that he will bring to the next meeting to give people more ideas.
Other ideas for group acts were put forward such as the policeman sketch from Jack the Ripper.
The Awaken Your Senses festival was discussed as another possibility for next year. Hannah Moore stated it would be good to focus on the fringe element of the festival and proposed we look into this for next year. One benefit of putting something on for the festival is that publicity covers a wide area and is covered by the organisers. Hannah Moore is to talk to Eddie Fulcher about the possibility of putting something on on his river boat.
Further venues for future plays were debated. It was thought it may be a good idea to collate a price list for different venues around Tewkesbury such as The Roses Theatre, The Watson Hall, The Wheatpieces Community Centre etc. Joe Harper also agreed to have an ‘informal chat’ with Alan Hayes to discuss the possibility of hosting something in Tewkesbury School’s drama hall.
AOB:
Oonagh Hughes brought in the article from The Gloucestershire Echo. The article seemed to suggest TADS are looking to “leave” The Roses Theatre although this was not the case. It was decided that Oonagh would write to Deborah at The Roses to clarify what was trying to be put across in the article and confirm that we were grateful of the support being shown to us by the theatre.
Date for the next meeting is set for Wednesday 20th June 2007.
All minutes are correct to the best of my knowledge.
